iPhone-friendly Cinemin Swivel pocket projector hits Europe

Take the cinema with you, writes David Walker

First seen at CES 2009, the Cinemin Swivel pocket projector is now finally available in both the US and Europe, ready to give your portable movies a big-screen premiere.

Swivel by name and swivel by nature - hook up your iPod, iPhone, PSP, smartphone or indeed any other portable gadget and you can fire any stored movies up onto a wall or screen depending on how far you angle the device. No matter where you aim it, the Cinemin Swivel should be capable of displaying a 60-inch image from a distance of around 8ft. Buy in the popcorn, hot dogs and nachos, turn down the lights and you could be in your local cineplex. Ok, maybe not, but it's a bigger screen than your living room TV can offer - and all from a gadget that's the size of a chocolate bar.

On-board Texas Instruments’ DLP Technology should mean good image quality and while the built-in speakers are unlikely to match it, there is an optional to hook up some external audio so the people at the back have a fighting chance of hearing something. Battery life is said to be two hours (enough for an average Hollywood blockbuster), but if there's a power supply nearby, you can always use the AC adaptor for ploughing through 2001 or Dr Zhivago.

Available for pre-order now, you can get your name down for the Cinemin Swivel for $350 or 350 Euros.
